Maryville City School System is operated under policies established by a Board of Education and is administered by a Director of Schools. The school system services residents of the City of Maryville and a limited number of non-residents who pay an annual tuition. Each member of a five-member Board of Education is elected to a four-year term of office. Board meetings are scheduled monthly. Meetings are held in various locations within the school system and the community. A Director of Schools is appointed by the Board of Education.

Special programs include pre-school instruction, comprehensive development classes, school-to-work programs and academic instructional classes for all ages. The school psychologists, speech and language therapists, and a special education counselor provide support services. Licensed personnel also furnish physical therapy, occupational therapy, vision, hearing and health services. In the fall of 1995, Fort Craig School implemented a re-structured elementary program that includes a year-around schedule. Students from across the system may choose this option.

Programs for Special Education

Maryville City Schools offers a comprehensive system of service delivery for students with special needs. While pursuing the goal of educating students with their age equivalent peer group to the maximum extent appropriate, teachers, specialists and parents cooperatively develop an individualized education plan for each student. Educational services are coordinated by 39 special education teachers, 35 of whom have earned a master’s degree or higher. Children who are struggling because their basic needs are not being met have been helped by the Family Resource Center for the past 10 years. Since the fall of 2003 City Councilman Ron Ivens and local businesses have provided additional funds to assist students with new school clothes, shoes, backpacks, and other basic needs.

The Maryville City School System is committed to providing appropriate educational opportunities to all students.
